MIP Weekly Update: 3/18-3/23

Good afternoon everyone! First, before my weekly update, I just wanted put out a huge congratulations to the students this past weekend for a fantastic and memorable trip. If you did not already see or hear, Mars Indoor Percussion placed 2nd in both prelims and finals, with a finals score of 84.563. This is the highest finals placement in the history of the program. The staff and I could not be more thrilled for the students and their success. I told them last night, but they truly put Mars, PA on the map in regards to the marching arts activity. We had multiple people: staff from other programs, students from other programs, and even representatives from companies who supply items like our drums sticks/mallets come up to us and talk about how much they enjoyed watching our program. It was a very exciting and humbling experience.

Not only did the students do well in the competition, but overall throughout the weekend. Students were seen helping other groups fold their floor when the wind decided not to cooperate. We also got several compliments, both from our rehearsal location on Friday and our hotel, on how well behaved the students were. The hotel went so far as to say that we are welcome back any time! We talk to the kids alot about how we aren’t just building music/performance skills, but life skills. I think those skills and postive character traits really showed up this weekend. Congrats again to all students on your achievements both on and off the floor!

Lastly, I would like to thank all of our chaperones and truck drivers throughout the course of the weekend. It is a such a long weekend for a total of 11 minutes worth of performances. I can speak for the staff and students that we appreciate all of your hard work and dedication to this program, and for helping make this weekend a success. Thank you!
