Weekly Update: 8/1-8/6

Good evening band families! I hope your student is enjoying their first week of band camp. Below is information regarding the next several days. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have.

  1. Uniforms-Students will be receiving their uniforms to take home with them tonight. They will also be receiving their shoes if they ordered them last week. Please make sure that all uniform pieces are taken care of once received.
  2. Picture Day-Picture day is this Thursday August 4th. When students arrive for pictures, they should arrive in uniform ready for their photo. Once their photo is done, they may hang up their uniform and store it on the uniform rack in the band room for the day. Students will be expected to take their uniforms home with them at the end of the evening. Pictures begin at 9am with 7th and 8th grade, at 9:15 will be 9th grade, 9:30 for 10th grade, 9:45 for 11th grade, and 10:15 for seniors. Students are to bring their own lunch between photos and  band camp, however, pizza will be provided for dinner that evening.
  3. Kennywood-This Saturday is Kennywood! Students should arrive at the high school auditorium parking lot no later than 9:15 am for a departure of 9:30am. They should have their full uniform and shoes with them, but not being worn. They will not need their shakos(hats) for this performance. Students are to wear their show shirt that day which will be administered to them later this week. The show shirt is their “free ticket” into Kennywood for the day. They will not be required to pay to enter the park as long as they are wearing their show shirt. Students will then be able to walk through the park during the day and ride rides, play games, etc. Unlike in previous years, the band does not have a pavilion secured for this evening. Therefore, there will be no food provided for this trip. Students will need to eat within the park during the day. At 4:30pm, the students will begin changing into their uniform and  the parade will begin at 6:00pm throughout the park. At the conclusion of the parade in Kennywood students may have the option to continuing riding rides(weather/time permitting). As a reminder, Kennywood is now cashless, so students will need to have other forms of payment in order to purchase items while at Kennywood. There is an option to bring cash and turn it in to a gift card of sorts. Estimated arrival back to Mars is between 10:00-10:30pm.
  4. DCI Baldwin-For those that are attending DCI Baldwin, we will meet in the high school auditorium parking lot between 4:15pm and 4:30pm. We will then depart via school bus between 4:30pm and 4:45pm. We should arrive back in Mars that evening between 10:00-10:30pm. There will be souvenir trailers available as well as concessions for anyone that would like to partake in that.

Have a great week!

-Mr. Soose
