Marching Band students – we will be performing in a “Parade of Champions” on Saturday, April 28th at 2:00 PM. The parade will honor all of our winter sports teams, and celebrate our 5A State Champion varsity girls basketball team.
We will perform “Roll Over Beethoven” from memory.
We will not wear full uniforms – a uniform will be announced next week based upon weather predictions for the parade.
A Championship Parade for the state champion Mars Area
High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team and Other Sports is Slated
A parade will be held in downtown Mars at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, to celebrate the championship seasons of the girls and boys basketball teams, which just ended in March. A flashback will happen with that memorable end to the girls winning the state title.
“It was all tied at for the Mars Girls Basketball 33-33, Archbishop Wood had a chance to hold the ball for the final shot of regulation. Junior Tai Johnson wasn’t going to let that happen. Johnson telegraphed a pass, drove to the hoop, and converted the championship-winning basket with 4.2 seconds remaining. Johnson also got fouled on the play and completed the 3-point play. Mars Girls win their first state title!”
Well, the town of Mars and Mars Area School District are going to celebrate with a parade through Downtown Mars on Saturday, April 28. Parade participants will line up at 1 p.m. on East Railroad Street. Participants will include the Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team, which won the 2017-2018 WPIAL and Section 2-5A titles, as well as those Mars Area High School wrestlers and swimmers who advanced to WPIAL and PIAA competition this past season. Mars Area High School Marching Band, cheerleaders, and some area first responders will round out the parade.
The parade route will travel along Marshall Way and turn right on to Grand Avenue with participants stopping just beyond the Pittsburgh Street and Grand Avenue intersection in front of the landmark spaceship for Ken Shoemaker, the Voice of the Fightin’ Planets, to let the large crowd anticipated for the parade know who the sports stars are from Mars.
Mayor Gregg Hartung says, “he appreciates working with Dr. Wes Shipley, the school board, athletic department, athletes, their families, and all our residents in hosting this special opportunity to affirm young athletes for all the hard work, dedication, and their reaching such high levels of accomplishment. It is wonderful that we have a town in the District where we can bring people together to celebrate as a community.”
The parade will continue down Grand Avenue to compete the celebration.
